OpenAI Confirms Upcoming Release of GPT-5
OpenAI has confirmed the upcoming release of GPT-5, as stated in a recent post on X. The company clarified that while GPT-5 is set to launch soon, the model used at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a separate experimental model. This experimental model employs new research techniques that will be integrated into future models, but OpenAI does not plan to release a model with such capabilities for several months.
The experimental model, referred to as "gpt-5-reasoning-alpha-2025-07-13," was finalized on July 13, 2025, and is currently in its final testing phase. This model is noted for its high reasoning effort, suggesting significant advancements in AI capabilities. OpenAI is also testing another model, "o3-alpha," which shows improvements in coding and front-end design, areas where previous models have underperformed.
