OpenAI Adds iMessage and RCS Texting to Dot Agent

OpenAI is rolling out a beta that lets ChatGPT Pro users in the US contact their Dot agent through iMessage or RCS.

OpenAI is adding texting to its Dot personal agent, according to Digital Trends. The beta is rolling out to ChatGPT Pro users in the US through Apple iMessage and Android RCS.

Users can send text, photos, and voice messages without opening ChatGPT. Dot can also send proactive updates, use context from ChatGPT conversations and connected channels, and provide an app link when a task requires approval.

Users activate texting from a Dot profile, verify their phone number, and save the contact provided by OpenAI. The feature supports only one to one conversations and does not include group chats, phone calls, or FaceTime. OpenAI says only the user can text their Dot, it can only message that user, and setting up the feature does not give Dot or OpenAI access to other text conversations.
