Ominimo Secures First Investment at $220M Valuation
Ominimo, a Polish AI insurtech startup, has secured its first external investment from Zurich Insurance Group, valuing the company at $220 million. The investment, amounting to approximately $11 million for a 5% stake, was confirmed by both companies, although the exact amount was not disclosed.
Launched just a year ago, Ominimo has already achieved profitability and signed up 300,000 policies in Hungary, its initial market. The company plans to expand into more than ten new markets, including Poland, Sweden, and the Netherlands, with Zurich Insurance serving as its risk carrier. Initially focusing on automotive insurance, Ominimo intends to broaden its offerings to include property insurance over time.
Ominimo's approach leverages AI and big-data analytics to enhance risk assessment and pricing strategies, setting it apart from traditional insurance models. The startup's CEO, Dusan Komar, emphasizes the importance of performance in the market, noting Ominimo's significant market share in Hungary and its below-average loss ratio.
The partnership with Zurich Insurance Group is seen as a strategic move to diversify Zurich's customer base and expand its retail business in Europe. Alison Martin, CEO of Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Zurich Insurance Group, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the potential for innovative motor insurance solutions.
