Novo Nordisk Foundation Funds Global AI Pathogen Analysis Platform

October 13, 2025
The Novo Nordisk Foundation has committed up to DKK 200 million to establish the Global Pathogen Analysis Platform, an AI-powered infrastructure aimed at strengthening global pandemic preparedness through open genomic data analysis tools.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation has committed up to DKK 200 million to establish the Global Pathogen Analysis Platform (GPAP), announced in a press release. The AI-powered platform will be developed at the Technical University of Denmark with partner nodes at the University of Copenhagen, Statens Serum Institut, and Imperial College London.

GPAP will provide free access to advanced tools for detecting, tracking, and analyzing infectious diseases using bioinformatics and artificial intelligence. The platform is designed to integrate genomic data from viruses, bacteria, and parasites with other datasets, such as climate and human mobility, to enable faster identification of potential health threats.

The platform’s pre-trained AI tools will simplify genomic analysis and generate automated summaries, lowering technical barriers for researchers and health authorities, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Users will retain full control and ownership of their data.

GPAP will be co-developed with international partners through designated activator sites to ensure the platform meets real-world needs. The initiative will be led by Professor Henrik C. Wegener and aims to support global pandemic preparedness while maintaining independence from commercial interests.
