Meta Restructures AI Teams to Accelerate Product Development
Meta Platforms, Inc. is restructuring its AI teams to enhance the speed of product development, according to Axios. The reorganization divides the AI department into two distinct teams: an AI products team and an AGI Foundations unit.
The AI products team, led by Connor Hayes, will focus on consumer-facing applications, including AI features within Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as Meta's new stand-alone AI app. Meanwhile, the AGI Foundations unit, co-led by Ahmad Al-Dahle and Amir Frenkel, will concentrate on broader AI advancements, such as improving Meta's Llama models and enhancing capabilities in reasoning, multimedia, and voice.
This restructuring aims to provide each team with more ownership and flexibility, allowing for faster product development. Notably, no jobs are being cut as part of this reorganization, and the company's AI research unit, FAIR, remains separate from the new structure.
