Meta Plans $50 Billion AI Data Center in Louisiana
Meta is planning to invest $50 billion in a new AI data center in Louisiana, as revealed by President Donald Trump during a Cabinet meeting. The facility, named the Hyperion Data Center, is expected to be one of the largest of its kind, with a scale comparable to Manhattan. This ambitious project aims to support Meta's energy-intensive AI systems.
The announcement marks a significant increase from the previously disclosed investment of over $10 billion. Meta is collaborating with financial partners, including PIMCO and Blue Owl Capital, to secure $29 billion in financing for the data center, which will be located in rural Louisiana.
The Hyperion Data Center is part of Meta's broader strategy to enhance its AI capabilities, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicating plans to invest hundreds of billions into computational infrastructure. This development underscores the ongoing race among tech giants to build advanced AI systems.
