Kroger Details AI Strategy for Shopping and Store Operations

Kroger detailed an AI strategy covering demand forecasting, personalized savings, shopping assistance and tools for store employees. The retailer is also training more than 400,000 associates to use AI.

Kroger outlined its AI strategy at GroceryShop 2026, according to a company press release. The retailer uses proprietary models for demand forecasting, operational optimization, personalization and generative AI.

Its AI Shopping Assistant helps customers plan meals, find recipes and build carts based on budgets, dietary needs and preferences. Conversational search supports product discovery and helps shoppers locate items.

Kroger is also developing tools that help store employees prioritize notifications and tasks. It is providing AI training and tools to more than 400,000 associates.

The company described a possible managed grocery service in which customers provide shopping goals and preferences while AI agents assist with planning, purchasing and fulfillment.
