Johnson & Johnson Introduces AI-Powered VIRTUGUIDE System for Bunion Surgery
Johnson & Johnson MedTech has launched the VIRTUGUIDE System in the U.S., an AI-powered solution designed to streamline bunion surgery by reducing complexity and surgical time, announced in a press release. The system supports Lapidus procedures, a type of bunion surgery that realigns the foot by joining two bones near the arch.
Developed in collaboration with PeekMed, the VIRTUGUIDE System uses pre-operative planning software to assess each patient's bunion and make personalized recommendations for correction. Early users of the system have reported a reduction in surgical time by approximately 30 minutes compared to traditional methods.
The launch follows the 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for the pre-operative planning software, making the system now available in the U.S. This advancement is part of Johnson & Johnson's growing portfolio of enabling technologies aimed at enhancing surgical precision and outcomes.
