JetBrains Releases Mellum AI Model on Hugging Face
JetBrains has released its AI coding model, Mellum, on the Hugging Face platform. Mellum, which was initially introduced for JetBrains' software development suites, is now openly accessible for developers and researchers. The model, designed specifically for code completion, is trained on more than 4 trillion tokens and consists of 4 billion parameters.
Mellum is intended for integration into professional developer tools, AI-powered coding assistants, and research on code understanding and generation. It supports multiple programming languages, including Java, Python, and C++, among others. JetBrains emphasizes that Mellum is not a plug-and-play solution; it requires fine-tuning before use.
The decision to open-source Mellum aligns with JetBrains' commitment to transparency and collaboration. By making the model available on Hugging Face, JetBrains aims to foster experimentation and collaboration within the developer community. The model is licensed under Apache 2.0, allowing for broad use and adaptation.
Hugging Face serves as a platform for sharing and discovering machine learning resources, making it an ideal host for Mellum. This release marks the beginning of a planned family of specialized models by JetBrains, focusing on specific coding tasks.
