iotaMotion's Robotic Cochlear Implant Technology Debuts in Switzerland
iotaMotion has announced the first use of its robotic-assisted cochlear implant technology outside the United States, according to a press release. The iotaSOFT® Insertion System is currently being used in a pre-market clinical investigation at the University Hospital of Zurich, led by Professor Alexander Huber.
The study, titled "Analysis of electrocochleographic signals during speed-controlled cochlear implant electrode array insertion in a non-randomized controlled trial," marks a significant milestone for iotaMotion. The iotaSOFT Insertion System, which has been utilized in over 750 cases in the U.S., offers precise control over electrode array insertion, optimizing intracochlear recordings through real-time electrocochleography (ECochG).
Professor Huber emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that the introduction of this technology at the University of Zurich will advance cochlear implant care and explore new clinical techniques. The study aims to analyze the relationship between electrode insertion dynamics and cochlear function, potentially leading to advancements in cochlear implant programming and hearing preservation strategies.
While the iotaSOFT Insertion System is currently under clinical investigation, broader availability is anticipated in 2026.
