Healinno Tech Unveils Hybrid Robot for Prostate Biopsy at IROS 2025
Healinno Tech and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications introduced an ultrasound-guided serial-parallel hybrid robot for transperineal prostate biopsy at the 2025 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2025) in Hangzhou, China, announced in a press release.
The robot features a serial-parallel hybrid mechanism with five degrees of freedom, combining two serial manipulators, a linear feed unit, and an ultrasound probe positioning module. This configuration enables precise and flexible needle insertion for clinical applications.
A new Quantum-behaved Particle Swarm Optimization (QPSO) algorithm was used to optimize the robot’s mechanical parameters, achieving high accuracy levels suitable for surgical use. Experimental validation using water and gelatin phantoms showed maximum absolute positioning errors of 1.47 mm and 1.75 mm respectively, both within clinical standards.
The research is supported by national and municipal science projects in China. Healinno Tech plans to enhance the system with dynamic tracking and respiratory compensation functions to prepare the technology for clinical and industrial deployment.
