NICE Recommends Five AI Tools for Prostate MRI Scans

Oct 23, 2026
Draft NICE guidance recommends five AI tools for NHS use during a two year evidence collection period. The software highlights possible cancer on prostate MRI scans for review by radiologists.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends five AI tools for prostate MRI scans under draft guidance, according to Digital Health. AI-Rad Companion Prostate MR, DeepHealth Prostate, ProstatID, Prostate Intelligence (Pi) and QP-Prostate can be used in the NHS during a two year evidence collection period.

The tools highlight areas where cancer might be present to support radiologists reviewing and reporting scans. NICE said they could improve the accuracy and consistency of MRI interpretation, particularly where specialist expertise is unavailable. NHS national clinical director for cancer Peter Johnson said a radiologist will still review every scan.

The evidence period will assess performance in routine NHS practice and across patient groups. NICE did not recommend hProstate or mdprostate for NHS funding because clinical and cost effectiveness evidence was unavailable.
