Halo Introduces AI-Powered Smart Glasses with Real-Time Transcription
Former Harvard students AnhPhu Nguyen and Caine Ardayfio are launching AI-powered smart glasses through their startup, Halo. These 'always-on' glasses are designed to listen to, record, and transcribe conversations, providing users with real-time information.
The glasses, priced at $249, will be available for preorder starting Wednesday. They aim to enhance user intelligence by displaying relevant data in real-time, akin to having 'infinite memory.' The technology relies on audio transcription services and is expected to be end-to-end encrypted upon release.
Halo has raised $1 million in funding from investors including Pillar VC, Soma Capital, Village Global, and Morningside Venture. The glasses do not feature an external indicator for recording, raising privacy concerns. Users are advised to obtain consent in states requiring it for recording conversations.
The glasses currently lack a camera but may include one in future models. They are powered by a smartphone app and utilize Google's Gemini and Perplexity for chatbot functionalities, offering real-time prompts and answers.
