CRRC Unveils AI Metro Train and Hydrogen Locomotive

CRRC presented a digital metro train, a hydrogen fuel cell hybrid locomotive and an intelligent freight wagon at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin.

CRRC announced in a press release that it unveiled three full size rail vehicles at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin. The display includes a digital metro train, a hydrogen fuel cell hybrid locomotive and an intelligent flat wagon.

The metro train belongs to CRRC's VELLINK urban rail platform and uses multiple sensors and AI to monitor tracks and identify potential failures. CRRC describes it as the first use of embodied AI in mass transit. Its design reduces vehicle weight by about 18% and energy consumption by more than 10% compared with conventional vehicles.

The VELFORCE locomotive has a rated output of 2,000 kW and a dual stack fuel cell system that delivers 400 kW. It can be refueled in 15 to 20 minutes and is designed for regional freight routes that are not fully electrified. Its driving platform uses deep learning and multiple sensors for environmental awareness and decision making.

The MAGIX flat wagon weighs 17 metric tons and can carry 73 metric tons. It supports freight yard shunting, intermodal operations and terminal logistics. CRRC also said it uses its AIZOR large AI model across equipment research, manufacturing and maintenance.
