BriefCatch Acquires WordRake and Its Patented Editing Technology
BriefCatch has acquired WordRake’s core product and technology assets, including twelve U.S. patents and its patented editing algorithms, announced in a press release. The transaction combines WordRake’s sentence-level clarity and concision tools with BriefCatch’s document-level legal writing analysis.
The acquisition unites two widely used writing platforms designed to improve legal and professional writing quality while maintaining attorney control over edits. WordRake’s in-line editing software, integrated into Microsoft Word and Outlook, identifies unnecessary words and refines sentence structure. BriefCatch’s AI-assisted platform analyzes organization and persuasion in legal documents.
WordRake will continue to operate separately in the near term, with existing licenses honored and ongoing product support. A roadmap for future integration has been outlined, and WordRake CEO Scott Johns will join BriefCatch as a Strategic Advisor.
The move expands BriefCatch’s workflow-embedded editing capabilities for law firms, courts, and agencies, reinforcing its focus on clarity and precision in legal writing.
