Arm and SoftBank Fund AI Research at Carnegie Mellon University

Arm and SoftBank Group have announced a $15.5 million contribution to Carnegie Mellon University to support AI research in collaboration with Keio University.

Arm and SoftBank Group have announced a contribution of USD 15.5 million to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to support its partnership with Keio University. This collaboration aims to accelerate global advancements in artificial intelligence, as stated in a press release.

The funding will provide CMU researchers with access to Arm's hardware and software tools, facilitating innovation and research in areas such as multimodal and multilingual learning, embodied AI for robotics, and AI for scientific discovery. Additionally, SoftBank Group will establish a fellowship to support Ph.D. students in AI research at CMU.

This initiative is part of a broader effort involving several global companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, and NVIDIA, which have collectively pledged USD 110 million to support AI collaborations between the United States and Japan. The partnership between CMU and Keio University is expected to unlock significant research potential and foster international leadership in AI.
