Amazon Expands Health AI Assistant to Website and App
Amazon has expanded access to its Health AI assistant, making it available on Amazon.com and in the Amazon app. Previously limited to the One Medical app, the assistant can now be used by all U.S. customers, regardless of whether they are Prime members or One Medical subscribers.
Health AI can answer general health questions, interpret lab results, explain medical records, manage prescription renewals, and book appointments. With user permission, it can access medical data through the Health Information Exchange to provide personalized guidance. When professional care is needed, the assistant connects users to One Medical providers via message, video, or in-person visits.
Eligible Prime members receive up to five free direct-message consultations with One Medical providers for over 30 common conditions, including flu, allergies, and skin issues. Non-Prime users can access care through a pay-per-visit option. Health AI also integrates with Amazon Pharmacy for medication management.
All interactions with Health AI take place in a HIPAA-compliant environment with encryption and access controls. Amazon stated that the system trains on anonymized patterns rather than identifiable patient data to improve responses while maintaining privacy.
The assistant is built on Amazon Bedrock and uses multiple specialized AI agents for tasks such as communication, workflow handling, and compliance monitoring, with human oversight for safety-critical decisions. The rollout is underway and will expand to more users in the coming weeks.
