Amazon Develops AI Tool 'Kiro' for Real-Time Code Generation

Amazon is developing a new AI-powered coding tool named Kiro, designed to generate code in real-time using AI agents, according to internal documents.

Amazon Web Services is developing a new AI-powered coding tool, codenamed 'Kiro', designed to enhance software development by generating code in near real-time. According to internal documents viewed by Business Insider, Kiro will utilize AI agents to analyze user prompts and existing data, offering a web and desktop application with multimodal capabilities.

Kiro aims to surpass existing tools like Amazon's current AI coding assistant, Amazon Q, by integrating with both first-party and third-party AI agents. The tool will also support a multi-modal interface, allowing developers to input text, diagrams, and other contextual information. This feature is expected to streamline the creation of technical design documents, flag potential issues, and optimize code.

While AWS had initially considered launching Kiro in late June, the current status of the rollout remains uncertain. The development of Kiro reflects the growing trend of AI coding assistants, with major tech firms investing heavily in this space.
