AidKit and GiveDirectly Launch AI Initiative for Public Benefits Enrollment

AidKit and GiveDirectly have launched an AI-powered initiative to streamline public benefits enrollment, funded by a GitLab Foundation grant.

AidKit and GiveDirectly have launched an AI-powered initiative to tackle backlogs and increase efficiency in public benefits enrollment, announced in a press release. Funded by a grant from the GitLab Foundation, the project aims to deploy AI innovations to help state and local agencies reduce caseload burdens and improve access for eligible families.

The initiative will integrate AI-driven conversational interfaces to simplify program discovery, identity verification, and application completion. These tools mimic human assistance, engaging applicants through text or voice-based interactions to help them navigate complex processes more easily. AidKit's broader solution combines these conversational tools with human oversight to ensure transparency and accountability.

The AI tools will first be deployed through GiveDirectly's Rx Kids program, initially serving 5,000 individuals with plans to scale across government aid programs. This effort is part of a larger initiative by AidKit and GiveDirectly to improve the enrollment process for public benefits, ultimately aiming to unlock over $1 billion in new income for low-income communities.
