Rockefeller and OpenAI Foundations Launch $50 Million Cities AI Fund
Rockefeller Foundation and OpenAI Foundation launched a $50 million program for organizations using AI to improve city services, as they announced in a press release. Cities Deliver will provide grants of $500,000 to $2 million and plans to reach up to 100 million residents worldwide.
Eligible nonprofit and civil society organizations must work with a city government partner and serve a charitable purpose. Proposed projects must use recent AI models for complex tasks in public health, economic mobility, environmental resilience, or civic engagement. Applicants can choose any suitable AI models or products, with no preference for OpenAI technology.
Applications opened October 14 and close November 29, 2026. The Rockefeller Foundation also plans follow on grants for earlier projects, including flood alerts in Rio de Janeiro, dengue outbreak forecasts in Colombia, and a resident engagement platform in Cape Town.
