The West Virginia Department of Human Services, in collaboration with Cardinality.ai, has launched the COMET platform to enhance communication in the state's foster care system.

The West Virginia Department of Human Services, in partnership with Cardinality.ai, has launched the Communication & Operations Mobile Engagement Tool (COMET) to improve communication and collaboration within the state's foster care system. Announced in a press release, COMET provides a secure, centralized platform for foster parents, caseworkers, attorneys, and service providers to share information and track updates, aiming to reduce delays and prevent miscommunication.

Phase 1 of COMET went live on September 2, 2025, establishing secure communication and case tracking across several counties. The second phase is currently underway, which will expand the platform's functionality, including the introduction of a mobile application to increase accessibility for stakeholders. The system is actively supporting caseworkers, supervisors, administrators, and foster and kinship caregivers across multiple counties, providing secure access to child information and enabling timely communication to improve outcomes for children and families.

The initiative is seen as a transformative step in enhancing the support system for vulnerable children in West Virginia, with the goal of ensuring timely and consistent support for families across the state.
