Villa Sandi Deploys AI and Sensor Network Across Italian Vineyards

Villa Sandi has introduced a digital ecosystem for precision viticulture across its vineyards in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, announced in a press release. The system connects more than 200 hectares through a platform that gathers and interprets agronomic and climate data to support targeted vineyard management.

The network includes weather stations tracking temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind, along with sensors that measure soil moisture and leaf wetness. Artificial intelligence tools process this data to assist agronomists with decisions related to irrigation, disease prevention, and determining optimal harvest periods. Drones and satellite imagery provide plot level analysis, identifying vine stress and variations in growth conditions.

According to the company, using continuous monitoring and AI analysis has led to a reduction in plant protection treatments by up to 20 percent and average water savings of around 10 percent. In some areas that combine these systems with soil and rootstock studies, water use has declined by as much as 70 percent.

The initiative aligns with Villa Sandi's Biodiversity Friend certification and supports the winery’s long term goal to make vineyard operations more sustainable and efficient under changing climate conditions.
