TransPerfect Acquires Unbabel, Integrates AI Translation Tools

TransPerfect has acquired Unbabel, a leader in AI translation technology, to enhance its GlobalLink platform with Unbabel's TowerLLM and COMET systems.

TransPerfect has acquired Unbabel, a Portuguese company renowned for its AI translation technology, announced in a press release. This acquisition aims to integrate Unbabel's TowerLLM and COMET systems into TransPerfect's GlobalLink platform, enhancing its capabilities in providing AI-driven language solutions.

Unbabel, founded in 2013 and a graduate of Y Combinator, has developed TowerLLM, the first large language model specifically designed for translation, and COMET, a benchmark system for evaluating machine translation quality. These technologies will now be part of TransPerfect's offerings, which already serve over 6,000 global organizations.

Phil Shawe, President and Co-CEO of TransPerfect, highlighted the strategic benefits of combining the two companies' technologies, emphasizing the potential for improved efficiencies and innovation for their clients. Vasco Pedro, Co-Founder and CEO of Unbabel, will remain with the company to oversee the integration process.

This acquisition marks a significant step for TransPerfect in solidifying its leadership position in the language AI market, offering enhanced multilingual communication solutions to enterprises worldwide.
