Thinking Machines Lab Targets $2 Billion Seed Round
Mira Murati, former CTO of OpenAI, is reportedly aiming to raise $2 billion in a seed round for her new venture, Thinking Machines Lab. This ambitious fundraising effort could value the company at $10 billion, according to Business Insider. The startup, which emerged from stealth earlier this year, is focused on developing multimodal AI models with advanced reasoning capabilities.
Thinking Machines Lab has attracted several high-profile AI researchers, including former OpenAI executives. Notably, John Schulman, a co-founder of OpenAI, serves as the chief scientist, while Barret Zoph, a co-creator of ChatGPT, is the CTO. The company also recently appointed Bob McGrew and Alec Radford as advisors.
The startup aims to create AI systems that are more customizable and generally capable than existing models. It plans to incorporate multimodal features and has expressed intentions to open-source some of its technologies, particularly those related to AI safety. The $2 billion funding, if secured, would significantly aid in acquiring the necessary infrastructure to train these advanced AI models.
