Sierra Introduces Personal Agent Protocol With Meta and Partners
Sierra introduced Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard for interactions between personal AI agents and businesses, according to Unite.AI. The company is developing it with Meta, Genesys, Instinct, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe, and Walmart.
The protocol lets businesses recognize when an agent represents a customer and control which actions it can perform. Customers can grant read or write access, while businesses can route interactions through their websites, APIs, or their own agents. Sessions use OAuth and can continue across these routes, with support for interfaces based on MCP and OpenAPI.
Sierra plans to publish the v0.1 specification later in October 2026, followed by design workshops and a reference implementation. Possible later additions include more detailed permissions, push notifications, and payment tools that do not expose card information to personal agents.
