Semperis Study Highlights Persistent Ransomware Threats

August 02, 2025
Semperis has released a study revealing ongoing ransomware threats, with many companies paying multiple ransoms and facing physical threats from hackers.

Semperis has published a study revealing the persistent threat of ransomware attacks on global organizations, announced in a press release. The study, which surveyed nearly 1,500 organizations, found that many companies have paid multiple ransoms over the past year, with 69% of victimized companies opting to pay. Alarmingly, 38% of these companies paid more than once.

The report highlights that in 40% of attacks, hackers threatened physical harm to executives who refused to pay, with U.S. companies experiencing such threats 46% of the time. Additionally, 47% of attacked companies reported threats of regulatory complaints if they did not report the incident, with Singapore seeing the highest rate of such threats at 66%.

The study underscores the need for organizations to enhance their resilience against ransomware by evaluating the security of partners and supply chain vendors, and by preparing for evolving ransomware tactics. Semperis CEO Mickey Bresman emphasized that paying ransoms should not be the default option, as it only fuels further criminal activity.
