DataVolt invests $5 billion in a 1.5 GW AI data center in NEOM's Oxagon, set to be operational by 2028.

Saudi Arabia is set to host one of the world's largest artificial intelligence data centers following a $5 billion investment by DataVolt in Oxagon, the industrial city within NEOM. The facility, with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts, will be built in Oxagon's industrial quarter and powered entirely by renewable energy.

The first phase of the project, a 300-megawatt facility, is expected to be operational by 2028. Oxagon Executive Director Howard Wu emphasized the significance of the project's architectural design and AI workload management, noting that the data center will be groundbreaking in scale and sustainability.

The agreement between Saudi Arabia's NEOM and DataVolt aims to develop a net-zero artificial intelligence project, as the kingdom seeks to become a hub for AI technology. This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which focuses on economic diversification and reducing dependence on oil revenue. The data center will enhance Oxagon's technology ecosystem and reinforce Saudi Arabia's position as a leader in digital infrastructure.
