Mistral AI and Humain have announced in a company blog post a strategic collaboration for sovereign AI in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. The work covers AI infrastructure, advanced model development, and deployment of AI solutions.

The companies said the collaboration is worth hundreds of millions of euros. Initial focus areas include cybersecurity and voice, with plans to develop frontier models that perform strongly in Arabic.

Mistral AI will explore using Humain data center infrastructure to support local compute needs. The companies also plan a joint market strategy in Saudi Arabia for regulated industries.

The announcement defines sovereign AI as keeping data, intelligence, compute, and operations under customer control. It includes customer control over data boundaries, model adaptation, training, inference, deployment, governance, observation, and improvement.
