Quotient Sciences Begins Clinical Trial for AI Designed Drug Formulation
Quotient Sciences has begun a Phase I clinical study of a new oral drug formulation created using artificial intelligence, announced in a press release. The trial received approval from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and is being conducted at the company’s UK facility.
The study will evaluate the safety and pharmacokinetics of the formulation in healthy volunteers. It aims to validate the use of AI for drug product development and demonstrate how AI can accelerate formulation design and decision making.
Quotient Sciences used a machine learning algorithm from Intrepid Labs to support formulation design and optimization. This approach allowed rapid exploration of formulation options and data informed decision making to improve expected clinical performance.
The company described this as the first reported instance of an AI designed formulation entering clinical evaluation. It plans to expand its integration of AI across formulation development and clinical workflows, with further updates expected in the coming months.
