Pony.ai Begins Road Testing Gen-7 Robotaxis in Guangdong

Pony.ai has launched public road testing for its seventh-generation Robotaxis in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, China, marking a significant step in its commercialization efforts.

Pony.ai has initiated public road testing for its seventh-generation Robotaxis in the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, announced in a press release. These vehicles are based on the second-generation Aion V model from Guangzhou Auto (GAC) and are equipped with Pony.ai's latest autonomous driving system.

The new system, unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show, features 100% automotive-grade components and a 70% reduction in the bill of materials costs compared to previous versions. It includes six types of mass-production sensors for 360-degree perception and a proprietary sensor cleaning solution, enabling the system to handle adverse weather conditions effectively.

Pony.ai has obtained regulatory permits to conduct these road tests, marking a transition from laboratory and closed-track validation to real-world traffic environments. The company aims to achieve mass production by 2025, with plans to expand its fleet to over 1,000 vehicles by the end of the year.
