American Rheinmetall Gets U.S. Army Contract for Autonomous Logistics Vehicles

American Rheinmetall has received an 18 month U.S. Army contract to deliver autonomous, hybrid powered uncrewed ground vehicles for Project Sustainment.

American Rheinmetall has received an 18 month contract from the U.S. Army to deliver autonomous, hybrid powered uncrewed ground vehicles, the company announced in a press release.

The contract is part of Project Sustainment, an Army logistics modernization effort focused on autonomous load handling and transport. The vehicles are intended to move supplies to and from forward troop positions while reducing soldier exposure in contested areas.

American Rheinmetall is the prime contractor for a team that includes Harbinger, Forterra, and Primordial Labs. The program includes hybrid power integration, autonomous operation, and voice control for soldier interaction with the vehicles.

The contract also includes the potential for later orders as the Army continues work on its autonomous logistics fleet.
