Pony.ai Secures Permit for Driverless Robotaxi Operations in Shenzhen
Pony.ai has become the first company to receive a permit for fully driverless robotaxi operations in Shenzhen's city centers, announced in a press release. The permit allows Pony.ai to operate paid autonomous ride-hailing services in the Nanshan District, a significant economic hub with nearly 2 million residents.
This new authorization enables Pony.ai to expand its commercial operations, connecting Nanshan with its existing service area in the Baoan District. This expansion marks the establishment of Shenzhen's first cross-district driverless network, linking key urban areas and infrastructure, including Shenzhen Baoan International Airport.
Pony.ai's fleet has demonstrated strong performance in Shenzhen's challenging urban environment, characterized by heavy traffic and complex road conditions. The company continues to lead in autonomous mobility innovation across China's major cities, with its robotaxis already operational in Beijing and Guangzhou.
