San Francisco-based voice AI startup Phonely has raised $16 million in a Series A round led by Base10 Partners, with participation from Y Combinator, Etech Global Services, TSA Group, and Engage CX, according to Axios.

Phonely develops AI-powered voice agents that answer business calls and perform tasks such as qualifying leads, booking appointments, and providing analytics. The company reports that its system has driven over $10 million in insurance policy sales for a single customer, with strong adoption in the insurance and legal sectors.

The startup trains its models on voice data to capture natural speech patterns, including common conversational fillers, to make automated calls sound more human. Phonely’s approach differs from traditional large language models that are primarily trained on text.

The funding comes amid growing investor interest in voice AI, following major raises by ElevenLabs, Decagon AI, and Deepgram earlier this year.
