pgEdge Introduces ColdFront for PostgreSQL with Transparent Data Tiering
pgEdge announced in a press release the launch of pgEdge ColdFront, a transparent data tiering solution for PostgreSQL that unites AI, analytical, and OLTP workloads. The cold tier in ColdFront is fully writable, allowing UPDATE and DELETE operations on archived rows without code changes or data rehydration.
ColdFront automatically moves older data to Apache Iceberg in Parquet format stored on any S3 compatible object store, reducing storage costs by up to 90 percent. The complete dataset remains accessible through a single Postgres table name, and cold tier scans run at analytical speed using the DuckDB columnar engine.
The solution supports three storage modes: tiered (hot and cold), decoupled (Iceberg only), and partition only (no cold tier). pgEdge ColdFront is available now as a production ready beta under the PostgreSQL License.
