OpenAI to Acquire Neptune for AI Model Training Tools

December 04, 2025
OpenAI has agreed to acquire Neptune, a Polish startup that builds tools for monitoring and debugging AI model training. The deal, to be completed in stock, will integrate Neptune’s experiment-tracking technology into OpenAI’s research infrastructure.

OpenAI has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire neptune.ai | The experiment tracker for foundation model training, a startup that develops tools for tracking and analyzing AI model training.

Neptune’s software allows researchers to monitor experiments, compare training runs, and identify issues during model development. OpenAI has used Neptune’s tools for over a year and plans to integrate them directly into its training infrastructure to improve visibility into how models learn.

The acquisition will be completed in stock, though financial terms were not disclosed. Neptune, based in Poland with around 60 employees, will wind down services for external customers and focus exclusively on supporting OpenAI’s research operations.

Neptune CEO Piotr Niedźwiedź stated that the company’s tools were designed to aid researchers in understanding complex model behavior. OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki said the integration will strengthen OpenAI’s ability to analyze and optimize large-scale training workflows.
