OpenAI and Meta Explore AI Partnerships with Reliance in India

OpenAI and Meta are in discussions with Reliance Industries to expand AI offerings in India, potentially involving ChatGPT distribution and local data hosting.

OpenAI and Meta Platforms, Inc. are reportedly in talks with India's Reliance Industries to explore potential partnerships aimed at enhancing their artificial intelligence presence in the country. According to a report by The Information, these discussions include the possibility of Reliance Jio distributing OpenAI's ChatGPT in India.

The talks also involve the potential for Reliance to sell OpenAI's models to enterprise customers through an API, and to host these models locally. This would ensure that data from Indian users remains within the country. Reliance is considering deploying these models in a planned three-gigawatt data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which is expected to be the largest in the world.

Additionally, OpenAI is contemplating reducing the ChatGPT subscription price significantly from the current $20 per month, although it is unclear if this has been discussed with Reliance. Meta has not commented on these discussions, and both OpenAI and Reliance have yet to respond to requests for comment.
