OpenAI Launches 'OpenAI for Countries' to Expand AI Infrastructure Globally
OpenAI has launched a new initiative called 'OpenAI for Countries', designed to collaborate with governments globally to build AI infrastructure. Announced on their website, the program aims to develop local data center capacities and customize AI products like ChatGPT for specific languages and cultural needs.
The initiative will initially focus on ten international projects, with funding sourced from both OpenAI and participating governments. This effort is part of OpenAI's broader strategy to promote 'democratic AI', encouraging the use of Western AI models over alternatives from other regions.
OpenAI for Countries is set to complement the company's existing Project Stargate, which focuses on expanding AI data centers beyond the U.S. The program will also involve creating a national start-up fund to foster local AI ecosystems, generating new jobs and industries in participating countries.
