OpenAI to Establish First Office in India
OpenAI will open its first office in New Delhi, India, later this year, marking a significant expansion in its second-largest market by user numbers, according to Reuters. The company has already established a legal entity in India and is in the process of hiring a local team.
This move follows the recent launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT Go plan in India, priced at approximately $4.60 per month, aimed at attracting the country's nearly one billion internet users. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, emphasized the importance of making advanced AI more accessible across India and building AI solutions tailored for the local market.
OpenAI faces competition from other tech giants like Google's Gemini and AI startup Perplexity, both of which have introduced offerings in India. Despite these challenges, OpenAI is committed to strengthening relationships with local partners, governments, businesses, and academic institutions to enhance its presence in the region.
