OpenAI is reportedly in the final stages of planning to build a data center in the United Arab Emirates, with an announcement potentially coming this week, according to Data Center Dynamics. This move is part of OpenAI's broader strategy to expand its presence in the Middle East.

The potential UAE data center is linked to OpenAI's Stargate initiative, a project backed by SoftBank, which aims to establish AI infrastructure globally. The UAE has already shown significant investment in OpenAI, with state-owned MGX contributing to both OpenAI and the Stargate project. MGX's chairman, Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also chairs G42, an AI firm that partnered with OpenAI in 2023.

This expansion aligns with OpenAI's 'OpenAI for Countries' program, which seeks to partner with governments to build local AI infrastructure. The initiative aims to enhance AI capabilities and infrastructure in countries that are considered friendly to the U.S.
