OpenAI Commits $1 Billion to Daybreak Cyber Defense Access

OpenAI has expanded its Daybreak cyber defense program with a $1 billion commitment to subsidized access, training, technical support, and partnerships, the company announced on its website. OpenAI expects the commitment to be used over the next six months, starting in the United States before expanding internationally.

The program will prioritize water and wastewater systems, electric grid operators, state and local governments, community and regional banks, nonprofits, and open source maintainers. A new pilot with the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center will provide Daybreak access, training, and hands on support to an initial group of public sector and water system defenders.

Daybreak Blue supports common defensive tasks, while Daybreak Red gives approved organizations access to specialized cyber models for more sensitive work. OpenAI said thousands of defenders across 2,000 approved organizations and workspaces already use Daybreak. More than 35 enterprise products and partner operated services will also add Daybreak models through the Daybreak Defense Network.
