Linux Foundation Report Finds Security Readiness Crisis Slowing AI Adoption
Linux Foundation has identified a growing security readiness crisis as the main obstacle to AI adoption and innovation, announced in a press release. The 2026 State of Tech Talent Report shows that security and privacy concerns rose from 17% in 2024 to 48% in 2026, surpassing cost as the leading barrier to AI success.
The report found that 57% of organizations have a capacity gap in AI security and risk management, and 40% are understaffed in cybersecurity and compliance. In addition, 43% of organizations said security issues prevent them from gaining value from AI, ahead of cost and skills concerns.
Despite these challenges, 97% of surveyed organizations are committed to AI implementation. Hiring is expected to rise by 31% in 2026, with an 8% increase in entry-level IT roles. The report also highlights that upskilling existing staff is the primary strategy to close capability gaps, with 57% of organizations prioritizing internal training over new hires.
According to the findings, upskilling offers significant advantages over external hiring, including a 7.9 times improvement in business context understanding and a fivefold cost benefit. Nearly all respondents, 94%, consider upskilling important or extremely important for addressing AI-related talent shortages.
