Karmada Reaches CNCF Graduation With Expanded AI Job Scheduling

Karmada has graduated from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation after completing its security, governance, and project maturity requirements. Version 1.19 adds scheduling features for distributed AI training across multiple Kubernetes clusters.

Karmada has graduated from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, the organization said in a press release. The open source project manages application placement, propagation, failover, and autoscaling across multiple Kubernetes clusters, clouds, and regions without requiring application changes.

Karmada version 1.19 expands multi component scheduling for distributed AI training jobs. It also promotes priority based scheduling to Beta by default and uses extensions to the Kubernetes API for centralized management.

The project joined the CNCF Sandbox in September 2021 and moved to the Incubating stage in December 2023. Graduation requirements included a third party security audit, a formal steering committee, adoption of the CNCF Code of Conduct, and maintenance of a Core Infrastructure Initiative Best Practices Badge. Karmada has more than 1,214 contributors across 292 organizations and more than 5,600 GitHub stars.
