Hugging Face Introduces Affordable Humanoid Robots

Hugging Face has unveiled two new open-source humanoid robots, HopeJR and Reachy Mini, with prices starting at $3,000 and $250 respectively.

Hugging Face has unveiled two new open-source humanoid robots, HopeJR and Reachy Mini, with prices starting at $3,000 and $250 respectively, according to Mashable. The HopeJR, developed in collaboration with The Robot Studio, features 66 independently controllable movements, allowing it to walk and manipulate objects. It is powered by dual NVIDIA Jetson Orin modules and a custom Linux-based control unit.

The Reachy Mini, a smaller desktop unit, offers basic interaction capabilities such as moving its head, talking, and listening. It is priced between $250 and $300. Both robots are designed to democratize robotics research by being fully programmable and open-source, enabling developers worldwide to innovate and customize their functionalities.

Hugging Face plans to ship the first units of these robots by the end of 2025. The company aims to prevent the robotics field from being dominated by a few large players with proprietary systems, as stated by CEO Clem Delangue.
