Google Introduces AI Mode for Complex Search Queries

Google has launched a new 'AI Mode' in Search, allowing users to ask complex, multi-part questions and follow-ups, available to Google One AI Premium subscribers.

Google has introduced a new experimental feature called 'AI Mode' in its Search platform, designed to handle complex, multi-part questions and follow-ups. This feature is now available to Google One AI Premium subscribers through Search Labs, as announced on their website. AI Mode leverages a custom version of Gemini 2.0, enabling users to explore topics in depth and compare detailed options directly within Google Search.

The AI Mode allows users to ask nuanced questions that previously required multiple searches. For example, users can inquire about the differences in sleep tracking features between various devices and receive a detailed comparison. The feature also supports follow-up questions, providing a more interactive search experience.

AI Mode employs a 'query fan-out' technique, issuing multiple related searches across various data sources to compile comprehensive responses. This approach integrates Google's advanced information systems, including real-time sources like the Knowledge Graph and shopping data. As part of the rollout, Google has also upgraded its AI Overviews with Gemini 2.0, enhancing its ability to handle complex queries such as coding and advanced math.

The new AI Mode is part of Google's ongoing efforts to enhance search capabilities, allowing users to access a broader range of information more efficiently. The company plans to continue refining the feature based on user feedback, with future updates expected to include more visual responses and richer formatting options.
