Google Invests $15 Billion in New Missouri Data Center and Energy Initiatives

Google announced a $15 billion investment in Missouri that includes a new data center in Montgomery County, energy affordability programs, and workforce training partnerships across the state.

Google announced in a press release a $15 billion investment in Missouri to build new infrastructure, including a data center in New Florence, Montgomery County. The initiative will create thousands of construction and long-term jobs while supporting programs for energy affordability and workforce development.

The company will pay all infrastructure costs associated with its operations and has already contracted more than one gigawatt of new energy generation capacity in the state. In partnership with Ameren, Google will support an additional 500 megawatts of capacity and has helped introduce the Capacity Commitment Framework to ensure large energy customers fund their own infrastructure needs.

Google also launched a $20 million Energy Impact Fund to reduce energy costs for households in Montgomery, Clay, Platte, and surrounding counties. The first recipient, North East Community Action Corporation, will use the funds for home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades, as well as to expand its weatherization apprenticeship program.

The Montgomery County data center will use advanced air-cooling systems to limit water consumption. Google will also continue to support local watershed projects such as the Missouri SWAN Smart Irrigation Initiative to replenish freshwater resources.

To prepare local workers for new opportunities, Google is collaborating with the Construction Laborers and Contractors Joint Training Fund of Eastern Missouri. The partnership aims to train more than 2,300 construction laborers and apprentices over two years. The company’s Skilled Trades and Readiness Program in Kansas City will continue to provide entry-level training for construction and trade careers across the region.
