GitHub will join Microsoft's CoreAI division following the announcement that CEO Thomas Dohmke will step down at the end of 2025 to start a new venture.

GitHub will be integrated into Microsoft Corporation's CoreAI division as CEO Thomas Dohmke announces his departure. Dohmke, who has led GitHub since 2021, will remain with the company through the end of 2025 to oversee the transition before leaving to launch a new startup.

Under Dohmke's leadership, GitHub has significantly expanded its AI capabilities, notably through the development of GitHub Copilot, an AI-powered coding assistant. The platform has seen substantial growth, with over 150 million developers and more than one billion repositories.

The integration into Microsoft's CoreAI division marks a strategic move to consolidate AI assets within the company. This transition is expected to further align GitHub's resources with Microsoft's broader AI ambitions, enhancing the development of AI technologies and tools.
