GenomOncology Introduces BioMCP for Biomedical AI Systems
GenomOncology has announced BioMCP, a new open-source technology that enhances AI systems' ability to access specialized medical information, announced in a press release. BioMCP supports advanced searching and full-text retrieval from clinical trials, genetic data, and published medical research.
BioMCP builds on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard created by Anthropic, which is becoming a standard for connecting AI to external data sources. This protocol allows AI systems like ChatGPT and Claude to access current information and perform actions based on that information, serving as an assistant or agent.
The technology connects AI systems to medical databases through a consistent interface, enabling them to start with broad searches and refine their approach using the most appropriate resources. This makes complex medical information more accessible through everyday language.
While BioMCP is available as open-source software, GenomOncology is developing a commercial version for organizations needing enhanced security and integration with clinical and research data. This version will build on GenomOncology's Precision Oncology Platform, adding capabilities to organize medical data, analyze patient groups, and match patients to clinical trials and treatments based on their medical history.
