G42 and Microsoft Launch Responsible AI Foundation in Abu Dhabi
G42 and Microsoft have officially launched the Responsible AI Foundation in Abu Dhabi, marking the first center of its kind in the Middle East. The initiative is supported by the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and aims to promote responsible AI standards and best practices across the Middle East and Global South.
The foundation will focus on two main areas: Responsible AI Research and Responsible AI Implementation & Governance. The research component will advance technical and ethical aspects of AI, including safety methodologies, bias mitigation, and explainability tools. The implementation and governance aspect will develop frameworks for ethical AI development and deployment, considering cultural diversity and regional needs.
In addition to the foundation, Microsoft has expanded its AI for Good Lab to Abu Dhabi. This lab will collaborate with NGOs and governmental organizations to address societal challenges using AI, with a focus on projects in the Middle East and Global South. The first researchers at the Abu Dhabi hub are expected to begin work in March 2025.
The launch of the Responsible AI Foundation and the AI for Good Lab outpost positions G42 and the United Arab Emirates as significant players in the global landscape of responsible AI development.
