ForwardX has scaled its fleet of 484 autonomous mobile robots across Chery Auto Group’s Dalian manufacturing facility, maintaining full production operations throughout the process.

ForwardX has expanded its autonomous mobile robot system across Chery Auto Group's Dalian manufacturing facility, maintaining full production operations throughout the process, announced in a press release.

The project now includes a fleet of 484 robots, making it one of the largest brownfield automation deployments in the automotive sector. The robots handle material transport and logistics tasks such as line-side delivery, powertrain movement, and empty container returns. In the bodyshop, 204 robots manage 32 material categories, covering more than 80 percent of material demand, while 280 robots in final assembly handle 95 categories, supporting nearly 90 percent of assembly line requirements.

ForwardX integrated vision-based autonomy, fleet orchestration, and manufacturing system integration to adapt to the existing factory setup. The system was deployed in phases, allowing automation to expand without disrupting Chery’s output of about 1,000 vehicles per day. The solution operates alongside workers, forklifts, conveyors, and existing equipment, demonstrating that large-scale automation can be achieved within active production environments.
