Energy Vault and Peak Energy Partner on Sodium-Ion Storage for AI Data Centers

February 16, 2026
Energy Vault and Peak Energy have announced a strategic partnership to co-develop a sodium-ion energy storage platform for AI-first data center operators, including a 1.5 GWh supply agreement for U.S.-manufactured batteries.

Energy Vault and Peak Energy have entered a strategic partnership to develop a sodium-ion energy storage platform tailored for AI-focused data center operators, announced in a press release. The collaboration combines Peak Energy’s sodium-ion battery systems with Energy Vault’s digital management platform and Vault OS software.

The agreement includes a 1.5 gigawatt-hour (GWh) supply of Peak Energy’s U.S.-manufactured sodium-ion batteries. This arrangement secures domestic supply chain advantages and eligibility for Investment Tax Credits under U.S. Domestic Content rules, improving project economics for grid-scale and AI infrastructure deployments.

The co-developed storage solution will be integrated into Energy Vault’s modular “powered shell” data center architecture. It is designed to handle the high and variable power demands of AI workloads, reducing reliance on traditional uninterruptible power supply systems and lowering cooling and capital costs.

Energy Vault also secured exclusive distribution rights for Peak Energy’s sodium-ion technology in Australia and Japan, expanding its reach into key international markets. All systems under this partnership will operate through Vault OS, enabling optimization and lifecycle management of the sodium-ion batteries.
